Get Liberated ! - not regulated

Libertarian Party
New York - Capital District

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be held at Albany Public Library on Tuesday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Bob Barr was chosen as the Presidential Candidate for the Libertarian Party at our National Convention last week in Denver Colorado. I was not able to attend, but from what I've read about it, it was an interesting event with 6 rounds of balloting. I know that some of local members did attend ad I hope we can get a report at this meeting.

Bob Barr may not have been our first choice, but he is our candidate and there is the possibility that he will get more press coverage for the party and more votes on the Libertarian line. We have a lot of work ahead of us this summer to get our candidates on the ballot in NY. We only have six weeks, from July 8th through August 19th to collect 15,000 signatures. I've included the information from the New York State Board of Elections 2008 Political Calendar at the end of this email.

The Capital District LP will be hosting the petition compilation efforts this year. This is a group effort and we'll need to set aside a few days to review, sort and compile the petitions. My guess is that the weekend of August 15-17 will probably be the final push. We have a number of people locally who have been involved in a number of presidential campaigns, so we won't have to reinvent the wheel on this.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to devote as much time as I should to the CDLP recently. My work life is still hectic; I've been spending a lot of time out of town and on the train between Albany and NYC. I think my load will lighten at the end of the month. I hope to see everyone next Tuesday.
